Post-Operative Instructions

1. Activity:

• Rest for the first 24 hours following your procedure. You may gradually resume normal activities as tolerated, but avoid strenuous physical activities, heavy lifting (more than 10 lbs), and vigorous exercise for at least one week.

• Do not drive for 24 hours after your procedure or until cleared by your physician.

2. Wound Care:

• Keep the catheter insertion site clean and dry. You may remove the bandage after 24 hours and gently wash the area with soap and water. Pat dry with a clean towel.

• Avoid submerging the wound (no baths, swimming pools, or hot tubs) for at least 7 days.

• Look for signs of infection, including redness, swelling, warmth, or drainage. If these occur, contact the office immediately.

3. Medications:

• Continue to take all prescribed medications unless otherwise instructed. This includes any blood thinners, cholesterol medications, and aspirin as recommended by your doctor.

• Pain at the insertion site is normal. You may use acetaminophen (Tylenol) as needed for discomfort. Avoid ibuprofen or other NSAIDs unless directed by your doctor.

4. Diet:

• Resume your regular diet. Drink plenty of water to help flush the dye used during the procedure out of your system.

5. When to Call the Doctor:

• Severe pain or swelling at the insertion site

• Prolonged bleeding or bruising that continues to spread

• Fever over 100.4°F

• Chest pain, shortness of breath, or dizziness

6. Follow-Up:

• A follow-up appointment will be scheduled for you within 1-2 weeks. Be sure to attend for further evaluation and to discuss the next steps in your treatment.
